What's My Part - Curb Complaining Please!

2011 Quest: The Year of Doing Right, Not Being Right

Complaining is one of those things we all love to do – we sit a friend or a stranger down and give them all the “gory” details of how we have been wronged. We try to get them on our side and make them an accomplice in our conflict.

That reminds me of a story that I like to call "are you prepared to die"? I was travelling home from a “talk” and there was a snow storm. By the time I finally boarded my plane it had been delayed by 7 hours (It’s a 15 minute flight - I could have swum home faster!). So we finally get on the plane, and I am excited imagining myself pouring a nice glass of wine and crawling into my cozy bed with a good book. We are sitting on the runway for a while when the pilot let us know they are going to fly and attempt to land but there is a chance they may have to come back if conditions are bad.

People were starting to moan and complain. A lady in front of me said: "Well it better land. I just have to get home tonight. I will be mad if we don't get there. I have already been delayed for too long." I was irritated by her comment. I wanted to get home too yet I know that I certainly wasn't willing to risk my life to do it and I wouldn't want anyone else to either. I decided to say something. "Are you really prepared to risk your life tonight to get home? I know that it is not a risk I am prepared to take and I trust the pilot isn't either". She didn't say too much. I think sometimes people forget what is really important.

Of course it wasn’t really a question it was a statement in disguise. A darn good one I think!

Diane's Rule: Sometimes we just need to say what needs to be said. Endless complaining and negativity is exhausting.

Quote of the Week

If you have time to whine and complain about something then you have the time to do something about it.~ Anthony J. D'Angelo

What I Want From You

This week I challenge you to make it a habit to stop complaining! Catch yourself when you are about to complain and let others know when they are complaining. What did you do rather than complain? Let me know...
